| Social Security Number |
If the number starts with 9, it is not a Social Security Number and will be rejected by the government's
payroll reporting system. Number starting with 9 is
likely to be an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification
Number) that can be used for personal income tax reporting
purposes but not for employment/payroll reporting. |
| Marital Status |
If employee is married and spouse is also working,
taxes might have to be withheld at SINGLE tax rate.
Please have your employee discuss the matter with
his/her personal income tax preparer. |
| Number of Exemption |
Usually this number is the number of exemptions
on personal income tax form 1040. Single person
with no dependent would use 1. For married person
with non-working spouse and 1 child would usually
use 3. For further information, refer to Form W-4
or have your employee discuss the matter with
his/her personal income tax preparer. |
| NYC Residency |
If you are an employer within New York City,
please let us know if employee is a New York City
resident or not. If employee's NYC residency
status is not provided and you are a NYC business,
NYC resident income tax will be automatically withheld. |
